BPL Global Joins JUCCCE

Participates in Yangzhou, China Smart Grid City Development Workshop

PITTSBURGH, PA, July 30, 2009 – BPL Global^®, Ltd. (BPLG), a smart grid technology company dedicated to leading the transformation of energy efficiency and reliability, has become a member of the Joint US-China Cooperation on Clean Energy (JUCCCE) organization. BPLG participated as a featured speaker at JUCCCE’s first Smart Grid City Development Workshop in China for the city of Yangzhou. Meeting growing electricity demand in the world’s fastest growing market for electricity while supporting climate change initiatives is a top priority for the Chinese government and its citizenry. China is poised to adopt Smart Grid technology to execute the transformation of its electric grid and meet its energy efficiency and reliability goals. Applying intelligent grid solutions is critical to enable a grid infrastructure that fuels China’s rapid economic development while minimizing the impact on the environment.

The JUCCCE International Smart Grid Cooperative provides its members with unique access to a premiere platform to engage on issues of paramount importance to their stakeholders, offering the means to address stakeholders’ expectations and also to capture the market opportunities in the growing green sector in China. This highlighted commitment from the Clinton Global Climate Initiative 2008 has embarked on a 3-part series of sessions bringing together the entire energy value chain of Grid Technology and some of the most influential private enterprises and utilities from the U.S. and China in order to accelerate the first large scale Chinese Smart Grid pilot program.

Organizers of China’s electric power industry trade show, EP Shanghai 2009, report that from 2005 through to 2015 China’s average annual power consumption is predicted to grow at a rate of 7.8 percent. By 2010 it is generally accepted that China will supersede the USA as the world’s largest energy consuming nation. As a direct result of this unprecedented growth, investments into China’s power industry will grow to account for a quarter of the world’s total. It is estimated that by 2030 the investments into China’s power generation and transmission & distribution sectors alone will reach some US $2.8 trillion.
