(BPLG), a smart grid technology company dedicated to leading the transformation of energy efficiency and reliability, announces that BPLG and our strategic partners have collaborated with multiple electric utilities awarded Smart Grid Investment Grants (SGIG) from the DOE as part of the ARRA funding announcements made by President Obama earlier this week. One highlight is the opportunity for BPLG to work with FirstEnergy in supporting their award to modernize their electrical grid and reduce peak energy demand through multiple smart grid technologies. BPLG has the opportunity to work with our strategic partners on other named projects with award amounts totaling more than $800M.

President Obama announced the recipients of the $3.4B in Smart Grid Investment Grants which will help fund the largest single energy grid modernization in U.S. history. One-hundred grant awards have been announced ranging from $400,000 to $200M. Combined with the private matching investments, over $8B will be spent to modernize the U.S. energy grid. Together, these awards represent the largest group of Recovery Act awards ever made in a single day and the largest batch of Recovery Act clean energy grant awards made to-date. Still to be announced by DOE are winners of Smart Grid Demonstration Projects, expected to generate over $1B in additional projects. This is an excellent example of a strong public-private partnership working together to put the U.S. economy back on track.
