BPL Global Successfully Deploys EasyGreen® Building Efficiency Management Solution In Poitou-Charentes Region of France
Multi-Dwelling Units Have Intelligent Energy Home Services
PITTSBURGH, PA, April 27, 2009 – BPL Global®, Ltd. (BPLG), a smart grid technology company dedicated to leading the transformation of energy and information delivery, has deployed their EasyGreen® Building Efficiency Management (BEM) solution in the city of Poitiers in the southwest of France. The project was installed in apartment buildings that are managed by Habitat 86, Logiparc and SIPEA Habitat, assisting these social housing providers in conservation efforts by encouraging energy efficient property management. An immediate result of the BEM deployment was detecting that the average ambient temperatures in apartments were two degrees centigrade higher than energy provider contract targets. Reducing temperatures to contract targets has the potential to save 14% in the annual heating costs.
“The EasyGreen BEM solution offers a wealth of information to Habitat 86 concerning energy consumption in the building. We have already become aware of several areas where we can improve our energy efficiency, and thus make savings also. I believe this will be a valuable tool in our sustainable development action plan,” said Bernard Peterlongo,Managing Director of HABITAT 86.
EasyGreen BEM is a web-portal specifically designed for the building occupants and landlords. Unlike other solutions which only provide energy monitoring, EasyGreen BEM enables energy management with customizable usage and cost thresholds to trigger alarms that alert facility managers and occupants.
“The Poitou-Charentes region is particularly active in promoting sustainable and energy efficient solutions,” said Pascal Julienne, BPLG’s President and Executive Director EMEA. “In the buildings where we have deployed our EasyGreen BEM solution, the increased awareness of energy consumption highlights the synergies between energy efficiency at the social housing level and sustainability.”
EasyGreen monitors consumption of electric, gas and water services at the individual unit, building and park level in near-real time. This live view of consumption provides an increased awareness of energy and water use encouraging conservation. Occupants and landlords can set goals for improvement and manage services to a budget. This is part of an energy efficiency action program that engages building occupants to reduce their energy use and track associated savings. In Poitiers building landlords were able to take action to minimize costs and better manage consumption.
“Empowering end-users to play a central role in improving energy efficiency is a vital part of any energy savings program,” said Keith Schaefer, CEO of BPL Global. “Our EasyGreen solution makes participation simple and effective and provides building managers and occupants with a powerful tool to achieve green building goals.”
BPL Global’s Building Efficiency Management is a combination of software and hardware that creates the total solution to better manage energy and water efficiency. Intelligent sensors and a communications backbone provide the interface to securely monitor building services, systems and assets in real-time.
In addition to monitoring basic electric, gas and water services, BEM can also actively monitor other important systems and assets within a building. These often include heating/cooling systems, lighting and other significant electrical loads. They might also include distributed generation and storage such as generators, cogeneration assets, solar panels, micro turbines, fuel cells and batteries. Monitoring this equipment provides value to the facility manager by tracking performance and sending alerts when performance is not maintained within control parameters.
