Smart Grid Company BPL Global Elects New Independent Board Member

PITTSBURGH – Jan. 22, 2008 – BPL Global™, Ltd., a smart grid technology company dedicated to leading the transformation of energy and information delivery, has elected Dr. Francis J. Harvey as a board member to the company. Dr. Harvey brings extensive knowledge of the energy industry, seasoned experience as a board member and a refined skill in directing transformational change to BPL Global’s board of directors.

The majority of Dr. Harvey’s career was spent with the Westinghouse Electric Corp., which he joined in 1969 as a senior engineer and retired in 1997 as the chief operating officer of the Industries and Technology Group. He was responsible for six different divisions throughout the course of his career. Under his leadership, each of these organizations achieved higher levels of both strategic and operational performance, and as a whole, generated more than $1 billion in operating profit.

Between 1997 and 2004, Dr. Harvey served on a total of 10 different corporate and non-corporate boards. Dr. Harvey served on several corporate boards, including three portfolio companies of the Carlyle Group where he was the vice chairman of the board for two of these companies. Two of these companies were in the energy sector and one in the environmental sector providing highly relevant experience to his new role with BPL Global.

Dr. Harvey served as the 19th Secretary of the Army from November 2004 to March 2007. Appointed by President George W. Bush, he was responsible for all matters relating to manpower, training, reserve affairs, army installations, environmental issues, equipment sustainment, communications and financial management. As the Secretary, Dr. Harvey was responsible for the Department of the Army’s annual budget, which in Fiscal 2007 was more than $200 billion. Dr. Harvey applied his private sector expertise and experience in leading, managing and changing large organizations to transform the business side of the Army, as well as to update its leadership development programs.

In the late 1970s, Dr. Harvey also served for one year as a White House Fellow and assistant in the immediate office of the Secretary of Defense, Harold Brown.

He earned his doctorate in Metallurgy and Material Sciences from the University of Pennsylvania and his bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering and Material Science from the University of Notre Dame.
