
Power SG® Rapid Fault Locator is a software and sensor solution designed to avoid outages and minimize their duration. A flexible rules engine captures and executes utility-defined business rules over a potentially high volume of data flowing in from the power line instrumentation. The rules ensure the most significant and relevant information are conveyed to the grid operators in a timely manner. Events can be triggered by rules observing patterns and exceptions in the data. Such events can also be utilized by other Power SG grid management applications such as our Demand Management, Network Monitoring and Management and Integrated DER Solutions.
The software monitors grid activity using your current distribution sensors or our lightweight, low-maintenance intelligent sensors from Powersense that are suitable for pervasive deployment over the distribution network. Rapid Fault Locator brings the live view of the condition of the distribution grid, allowing operators to quickly triangulate on the location of faults. Alarms, device detail, and reports are all generated by the Power SG software for fast action to protect or repair the grid. The software interfaces with any sensor that continuously monitors current, voltage and power quality. Grid assets are protected by identifying previously undetectable transient faults for preventative maintenance.

PowerSense Optical DISCOS® Sensor Cutting-edge monitoring and control is achieved with the PowerSense optical DISCOS® sensor technology and a specially integrated voltage sensor. Both current and voltage are measured directly. The DISCOS® sensor works by using the Faraday principle. Current generates a magnetic field that is measured by the angle of rotation of polarized light. The system is designed for live installation on any existing medium voltage overhead power line.
